Science Fair

Carter decided that he wanted to participate in the science fair this year. He chose the topic of "Gummy Bear Osmosis." His question was: "What will happen to gummy bears if they are put into different liquids." First he measured and weighed each gummy bear.
Next he placed a gummy bear into 6 different liquids: tap water, salt water, ginger ale, vinegar, orange juice, 70% isopropyl alcohol. Every 12 hours, for a total of 48 hours, he took each gummy bear out of the liquid and measured and weighed them again.
He typed up all of the information for his display and made the bar graphs too! It turned out really well....and we are happy that it is now done!
When we were at the science fair this evening his display always had a lot of people around it. I over heard one man say "now this....this one I really like."

More Park Fun

We love our early days out of school on Thursdays. Spending the afternoon in the warm sunshine at the park is just what the kids deserve after a long week at school. This winter has been so mild; actually the last few winters have. We just enjoy it since we can't do anything else about it!

100th Day of School

Today was the 100th day of school! Claire had to make a poster with 100 items and she decided on this cute gumball machine. She glued 100 puff balls onto it. I helped in her class this morning for their 100th day celebration. They had 6 stations that they rotated through. They made 100 day glasses, made a necklace with 100 fruit loops, made a snack with 100 items (10 of each grapes, pretzels, m&ms, sunflower seeds, peanuts, popcorn, cheez its, etc), played a few games, and worked on writing to 100 by 2's, 5's and 10's.
The funniest thing I saw today was Claire's writing of when she is 100. They used an app to make the kids look old and Claire wrote the following:
When I'm 100 it will be awesome. First, I will sit on my couch with a pillow. Then I will wear a black dress and old lady glasses. Finally, I will remember when I was in first grade. I think it will be cool when I'm 100!

Pinewood Derby

We had a fun time at the pinewood derby this evening. Carter decided a few months back that he wanted a porcupine car. Cory helped his vision come to life and his car turned out amazing! Carter did the cutting, sanding & painting with Cory's help. The spikes on the porcupine are toothpicks broken in half with the tips burnt. The drilled little holes into the car & glued the spikes on.
Carter did so well at the race!! He won first place in the Bear den and got to go to the finals and raced the 1st place winner of the wolf and webelos dens. He got third place in the finals. Way to go Carter!

Kate & ️Ava

Kate's best friend is Ava & they love playing together. They go to preschool together & play just about every day. My friend Jen was out of town this week so I kept Ava after preschool until the older kids got out at Twin Lakes. The girls had a lot of fun playing, going to ️Chick fil A and Sams Club. It's so fun to have a good friend who comes from a wonderful family.

Sleeping Beauty

I've caught Kate a few times this past week asleep in the car. So cute!

Play date at the Park

We started meeting up with friends from our Ward again for our weekly play dates at the park. I was watching Addie & Ava today so they came with us. The kids had a blast running around with friends, climbing trees & playing on the playground. It's always nice when it starts warming up outside!

Sisterly Love

I found this card that Claire had made for Kate. It says
"I will, I will play where ever you play"

National Anthem At The Kings Game

Carter was able to sing the National Anthem with his school choir at the Sacramento Kings game this evening. He has been looking forward to it the whole school year. He has been dedicated & gone to choir practice every Wednesday at 7am.
We knew that the girls would be too tired to make it through the game, so we just bought tickets for Carter & I. He had to be at the arena by 4pm, so we left straight from school & drove there. The kids went in to do a sound check & they were free to leave from 5-6:15pm. We went over to Mel's Diner and ate dinner. A bunch of other families were there as well, including Carter's friend Noah.
We we got back to the arena the choir kids had to meet together & the families were able to go to our seats. Right before the game the choir came onto the floor through the team tunnel & did an awesome job singing! They had only rehearsed at 2 choir practices so we were thrilled with how well they did.
After the game they got to go back down to the floor to get a picture taken.
Now Carter is looking forward to singing at a River Cats game in the Spring!

Sweet Cousin

Claire & Phillip looked so cute while she read him a book this evening. She sure loves her cousin!

Claire's Quips

As I was blow drying Claire's hair this evening she said "Mom, in the olden days people didn't have electricity so they had to use fires & stuff."
I asked her when the "olden days" was. Her reply "2001?" I looked at her & she said "2003....2002?"
Ha ha!! So funny. But I totally get it. When I was in 6th grade I thought I would be an old lady in the year 2000!!

New Years Day

We were up early today, getting ready for our day! Cory & I went with Todd, Lisa, Jeff & Kristen to a new movie theater to see "Unbroken." The theater, Studio movie Grill, was a fun experience. Every seat has a table attached & they have a full menu of food you can order while you watch the movie. There is a small button you push when you need service & a waiter then comes to help you. Pretty interesting concept!
As for the movie, it was good - hard to watch though. And of course I liked the book better. I highly recommend it!
After the movie we headed back to moms where all the kids were. While we were at the movie some of the kids went down to Hagan Park to ride the trains.
We all gathered in the evening to enjoy about 6 different soups that we each made- delish! And we had to say goodbye to Bob & Debbie's family as they are headed home to Arizona.
We have really enjoyed our break off from school & schedules!
