Saturday Morning Hike

We decided to go on a little hike this morning to enjoy the warmer weather and see the beautiful green foliage from all the rain we have gotten. We started our hike off near the horses stables by the school. We made our way over to the Nimbus Dam and it was amazing to see so much water flowing out of the gates. We got over by the fish hatchery and couldn't believe how much was covered. The walkway that we usually go down to see the fish jumping was under water.
The kids decided that we should continue on walking to Grandma's house. They said they were all up to the hike. It ended up taking us 3 hours total and a total of 6 miles!!! There wasn't a lot of complaining at all. I was so impressed!
Along the way we saw some deer, skipped some rocks in the river and enjoyed the beautiful sunshine. We got all the way to Grandma's house......and she wasn't home!! We went into her backyard and the girls cooled off by putting their feet in the pool. Cory walked over to the church and got Marci's key to mom's house but by the time he got back, Mom had gotten home!!! Luckily Mom let us use her car to drive back to the stables to get our car, so that we didn't have to walk all the way back!

We are enjoying our week off from school and today we ventured out to the Jelly Belly Factory. Claire invited her friend Mayzie to come & Faith & Hayden joined us too. We loved tasting the yummy jelly beans and the self guided tour.
On our way home we stopped at The Habit for lunch.

Bathroom Remodel

Last fall we had a problem with the shower in our main bathroom. The little piece that you pull up to start the shower had broken and it ended up turning into a whole remodel of the shower. Cory did the demolition work over a few weekends. It was a messy and dusty job. He also got the cement board installed. But then life got busy and there just wasn't enough time in the day to continue.
We ended up hiring someone to install the tile. He did a quick and amazing job! We are pleased with the work that he did

Ice Skating

Kate's friend, Ava, had her birthday party at an ice skating rink. Claire was invited to attend too. Neither of my girls had been ice skating before & I think they thought it would have been a lot easier than it really was. Claire struggled most of the time, but still tried. Kate grabbed a stack of buckets and she started getting the hang of it. I went out on the ice also, & had a fun time skating around. It's been many years since I have gone ice skating & I can say that I definitely enjoy roller skating more than ice skating!

Kindness Week

Our school had a "Kindness Week". Carter was one of four 6th graders chosen to kick off the week at the assembly. Each day of the week the kids were supposed to wear different clothing: pajamas to show we "dream of kindness", sport jerseys to show we are part of "team kindness", etc.
Carter did a great job & we are so proud of him!

Kate's 100th Day of School Poster

Kate made her 100th day of school poster all by herself. She used foam letters with sticky backing and spelled different words. It was a fun, simple project for her.

Claire's Eye

I got a call from the school today saying that Claire had gotten something in her eye. When I got to the school she had a kleenex covering it & wouldn't take it off. She said that when she removed it, it hurt even more. I brought her home and she fell asleep pretty quickly, which is not like her.
After waking up, it was still hurting so I called our eye doctor in the late afternoon and they said I could bring her in at 7pm that evening.
It took Dr. Ching a while but he seems to think that after pulling her eyelid up a few times, whatever was under her eyelid eventually came out. With her blinking all day with it stuck under her eyelid caused scratching to her eye. He prescribed eye ointment just in case of infection.
She felt a lot better when we left the office.

Science Fair

This was Carter's last year of the Science Fair at Twin Lakes. This year he decided to see how much iron is in 4 different kinds of cereal. He worked hard on it & we so glad that it is done!
