Our August family home evening was held at Lisa & Todd's house this evening. The kids swam for a while when we first got there and then we ate a delicious bbq dinner. After dinner Brittney & Kimberly gave a lesson and we celebrated August birthdays. It's so much to have the cousins together as often as we can.

Carter's Seeding Tournament
Carter's seeding tournament was all day today and it was a long one! Kate's first game was this morning & Cory was at a camp out so I ended up dropping Carter off at his friends house at 7:30am & he rode with him. His tournament was at Bass Lake in El Dorado Hills. The girls and I got there around 11:30am and he didn't finish until 3pm. It was so hot out there and we were all tired by the time he was finished. His team won all 6 games!
The girls played around the baseball diamond and bleachers most of the day. They had a lot of fun and when they got too hot they came & sat in their chairs in the shade.....and pretended to be asleep!

Kate's First Soccer Game
Kate's first soccer game was this morning and she was excited to go. The minute we arrived at the field she was not happy anymore. She started crying & throwing a huge fit. I had no idea what was wrong with her, but she said she did not want to play. She spent the first half of the game on the side lines crying. I finally bribed her with a piece of candy(!) and she ended up playing the second half of the game. She even played goalie!! I finally figured out that she did not know there would be so many people at the field; there were a bunch of other games going on at the same time. She is prepared for next weeks game now.

Sunday..... A Day Of Rest!
Kate never takes naps anymore, but today she sat down next to Cory & was asleep within minutes. He was able to get up from the couch without waking her when he had to leave for a meeting. She stayed asleep for about 1 & 1/2 hours and then we woke her when it was time for dinner. Busy days have caught up with her!

First Day Of School
The kids had a great first day of school! Carter is in Mrs. Black's fifth grade class & he really likes his teacher. Most of his friends are in his class as well, which makes it even more fun!
Claire is in Ms. Bailey's 1/2 combo class. I wasn't thrilled that they put Claire in a combo class with first graders, but after talking to three teachers about it, I felt a bit better. And after her first day in class I feel it is a great fit! There are only 8 first graders in the class, and they are students that have good behavior and do well in school. All of the second graders are very well behaved & at the top of their class. They can all work independently too. They reduced class sizes up to second grade this year, so there are only 26 children in her class. When the first graders leave for math, there will only be 18 in the class. Also, Claire already loves Ms. Bailey. She was a student teacher in Claire's first grade class last year.
Kate is in Mrs. Sarte's Transitional Kindergarten class. She only goes for 3 1/2 hours each day, but she loves it as well. Right now there are only 18 kids in her class!! Her good friend Ava is in Kindergarten, so they will no longer be in class together. She is sad about that but is making new friends!
We didn't get to have our Back To School dinner on Wednesday night because the kids were at soccer, but we had it tonight. I made a delicious lemon bundt cake for dessert and everyone loved it!

Soccer x 3
All 3 kids are playing soccer this year. Kate is on a U6 Micro Team, which is co-ed. Her friend Ava is on the team, so that is fun for them. Claire is on a U8 team, the Minions again, with all of her friends from last year. Carter is on a U12 team, and it's a new team this year, with a new coach. A bunch of boys from his previous years are on the team as well.
Luckily, all three of them practice at Phoenix Field on Monday & Wednesday evenings, during a 3 hour span. It makes for a long night, but it's better than having it every night of the week!

Kate's Ultrasound Follow-up
I got a call a few weeks ago from Sutter Imaging & they wanted to schedule Kate for an ultrasound. I was a bit confused, but was told that her surgeon wanted a follow up to make sure the cyst had not returned. Her appointment was quick this morning & the technician said that everything looked fine. I'm still waiting to hear the results from her surgeon, but I'm sure that everything is fine.
Haircut Time
Claire was ready to get her hair cut again, so I took Carter & Claire both to get theirs done. Claire decided on a A-line cut again & it looks perfect on her. She is now ready to conquer second grade!

Golfland Sunsplash
Cory's work held a family day at Golfland Sunsplash & we had a blast. We started out in the arcade where we had 3 hours of unlimited play. The kids & (and Cory!) loved playing game after game. At noon we got to play miniature golf. Surprisingly the kids didn't enjoy this very much. It was already pretty warm out & there were lots of people so I think that had something to do with it......I think they also just wanted to get in the water. After skipping quite a few golf holes we headed over to the water park. We spent about six hours playing in the water. Cory & I took turns staying with Kate in the kid area and the other would go do water slides for a bit. Carter & Claire both enjoyed the slides as well. It was such a fun day & a great way to end the summer. Thanks Accenture!!
